Springlake-Earth student Hunter won a $10,000 savings bond to put toward his college education. He told us, "It was very easy to do and more students out of our school should apply. My mother, Kelly, filled out a newspaper article/application in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. After she sent it in, I completely forgot about it. But a few weeks later, I learned that I had made the cut of 64 out of 400 students. I didn't think it was a big deal until I made the top four and was guaranteed a $1000 savings bond. The next week, I found out that I was one of the top two and was guaranteed a $5000 savings bond. The final week, my mom, my sister, and my two grandmothers went with me to the Fox 34 TV station in Lubbock where my name was drawn for the $10,000 savings bond.

It is a luck-of-the-draw kind of thing, and anyone, ages two-seventeen, can apply for the savings bond. All you have to do is fill out the application in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and let luck take its course!

Hunter is a sophomore at SEHS and plans to attend Texas Tech and earn a law degree.

Congratulations, Hunter!
