We Have Wind Turbines!!!!!!!!!!!!

The idea of using wind turbines to help power our school was first put into consideration when Shallowater ISD began construction on wind turbines of their own. Springlake-Earth ISD bought the wind turbines from a company named Entegrity Wind Systems. The company that constructed the wind turbines was Western Winds. The wind turbines are projected to be paid off in nine years. In the spring, the wind turbines are able to produce enough electricity for the school. The extra energy produced will be sold to Excel Energy for a profit.

The wind turbines' towers are one hundred feet tall with twenty-five foot blades! There is a twenty-five foot hole in the ground for footing to keep the wind turbines from being blown down. They are able to produce electricity using 9 mph to 50 mph wind. There is anomometer on the top of the turbines that allows the blades to turn into the wind which helps take advantage of any wind speed.

19th Annual Southern Plains Conference

On February 19, 2008, Dr. Gary Bigham (our Superintendent) spoke at the Hereford Community Center about the wind turbines and how they help control the school's need for electricity. Later that day, a group of people came to look at our wind turbines.
