Second graders enjoyed creating a story character using a pumpkin! They made up a crazy character and decorated the pumpkin to use as their main character. Students had to decide the pumpkin's personality, the problem in the story, and the storyline to solve the problem. Next, students created a "setting" on a piece of art paper and then placed the pumpkin in its setting.

In Social Studies, we began our school-year getting to know our classmates. We made a book telling all kinds of interesting facts about ourselves. After our books were complete, each student gave a presentation of their book while the class sat and listened attentively.

Second grade is feeling really "BUGGY" this year! We have hatched caterpillars and watched them grow through the life cycle to become beautiful Painted Ladies. We have learned the stages of the butterfly's life cycle and wrote about it. We will continue having lessons on insects throughout they year because "Second Grade is All the Buzz!"

Second grade is also learning all about the animal kingdom and their aminal groups in Science. We have made huge posters using magazine pictures to learn all about mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and insects. We will be learning about their habitats and how they depend on each other for survival.

These second graders went ABOVE & BEYOND in AR READING. They surpassed our class goal of 7 points by doubling the goal and earning a special reward day filled with fall activities.
