On Tuesday, January 23rd, the second grade classes enjoyed a field trip to UNITED Supermarket in Muleshoe. The purpose of this trip was to participate in the "Texas 5-A-Day" healthy foods program sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Region 17 Education Service Center.

During our visit, Mr. Matt Williams from the Texas Department of Agriculture showed us all the different Texas-grown produce available. He reminded us about the food pyramid which establishes a healthy, well-balanced diet. We learned a song with motions that was heard by everyone in the store! We also drew five fruits or vegetables on paper plates. Mr. Williams handed out free information pamphlets, pencils, stickers, color sheets, and place mats for each student.

Mr. Mike Holt, manager of Muleshoe's United Supermarkets then led us on a tour of the store. We got to see the storage area and even into the freezer! He ended the tour near the bakery where we all enjoyed a cookie!
