The Accelerated Reader program, utilized throughout the Springlake-Earth ISD, is designed to encourage students to read independently. Studies have shown that students who read do better in school, score higher on their SATs, have a larger vocabulary base, and are better writers.

Distributed by Renaissance Learning, students self-select library books on their reading level and of interest to them. Each book is assigned a point value, which is determined by the length and reading level of the book. The higher the reading level, the more points a book is worth. After reading the book, students take a computer test. The number of questions answered correctly determines the number of points the students receive.

Several students have attained the various point levels, thus qualifying for a particular point club.
