Materials:

  • Papier Mache Powder
  • Plate Glue
  • Sequins Glue
  • Craft Sticks
  • Water Paints
  • Feathers

Procedure:

Mix up papier mache in a hot plate with water until it is the proper consistency. If it is too wet, it won't shape; if it is too dry, it won't shape properly either. Make the desired shape of your mask in your plate. Set aside to air dry for 24-48 hours. Decorate your mask using paint, sequins, jewels, and feathers. Attach 1-2 craft sticks to the back of your mask to use as a handle (this is optional). Due to the heavy nature of the masks, these are not designed for wearing; they are only for decoration. Before this activity, the students researched Mardi Gras and wrote reports on this holiday.
