Janet Conkin was born and raised in El Paso, Texas where she graduated from Coronado High School. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Texas at El Paso and received her Master of Education degree at Texas Tech University. Janet is certified in MOS and A+. She teaches Accounting, Business Computer Information Systems, and Keyboarding/Word Processing at Springlake-Earth High School and coaches U.I.L. microcomputer applications and accounting. She began teaching at S-E in 1982.

Janet and her husband Robert have two children, Brian and Kristen, who lives with her husband Josh and son Adian in Plainview. Janet's favorite author is John Grisham and she enjoys Classic Rock music. In her spare time, she enjoys needlework, traveling, and shopping.


Miles Cox lives with his wife, Ana, and children John and Cristina in the rural area northwest of Earth. He is a 1984 graduate of Tascosa High School in Amarillo and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a degree in Zoology. He is certified to teach composite science. He joined the S-E faculty in the fall of 2005 and teaches biology, chemistry and 8th grade science.

His interests include photography, videography, travel, movies, birds, eating, and spending time with his lovely young family. He said, "I've never had a cavity, and I am only slightly over average weight for my height." His favorite sayings is "Smile!" His favorite book is the Bible, he likes movies by Scorsese, Coppola (both), Tarantino, Rodriguez, Gilliam, Ford, and Leone. His favorite author is Poe.

Miles has a myriad of work experiences: construction, restaurants, ski resorts, scientific research, wildlife photojournalism, independent film, TV commercials, and instructional videos.
